Boris van der Lek & Jules Deelder released their album ‘Jazz’ through Butler Records on the 16th of November 2018.
In 1980, Boris van der Lek became infected with the Jazz virus, A turbulent career on international stages and with many legends from the genre such as Joe Pass and Henry ‘Sweets’ Edison followed. In1987 The Houdini’s were founded and the friendship with Jules Deelder arose. After the Tough Tenors with Hans Dulfer, Trio Me Reet with Deelder, guest roles with Livin ‘Blues and Golden Earring and member of Herman Brood & His Wild Romance, it is now time for a new collaboration with the night mayor of Rotterdam.
Last summer they traveled through the country togetcher as part of Theatre festival De Parade, as a result from previously made album recordings that are now going to be released. Under producer / engineer Frans Hagenaars (Excelsior) the vintage microphones were set up in Theater Walhalla to record new tracks in three days. Of course with Boris on sax and Jules on percussion and vocals. They were joined by guitarist Cok van Vuuren (Ocobar, Mathilde Santing, Fay Lovsky), bassist Peter Wassenaar (Bram Vermeulen) and drummer Arend Niks (Corrie van Binsbergen, Orkater). Together they came to a wonderful authentic Jazz album that sways melancholic and excites, but especially has a warm touch.
